Sofia
Vergara ('Cici' in "Chasing Papi") is a red-hot Hispanic T.V.
star and one of the most loved personalities of the Latino
world. In only six years of career in the U.S., she has become
the favorite young star of the Hispanic market.
Vergara¡¦s humorous presentation at the American
Comedy Awards on the Fox Network created a frenzy that resulted
in her first Hollywood role, as Nina in Barry Sonnenfeld¡¦s
comedy "Big Trouble," starring Tim Allen and Rene Russo. In
2002, she landed a pivotal dramatic role opposite ¡§Felicity¡¨
star Scott Speedman and ¡§X-Men¡¦s¡¨ James Marsden in the
independent film "The 24th Day." On the small screen, Vergara
was recently seen guest-starring on an episode of the hit
television series ¡§My Wife & Kids.¡¨
Vergara has graced over 100 covers of
international magazines, hosted dozens of top Hispanic events,
each watched by more than 100 million viewers.
Vergara¡¦s Hispanic television credits include "Fuera
de Serie" ("Out of this World") on Univision, and her own
top-rated prime time one-hour weekly show, "A que no te atreves"
("I Dare You"). The series shot to the number one slot with
young audiences on Univision.When she
became the host of La Bamba, a syndicated music and television
interview show, she caused a ratings explosion.
In 1999, Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta
Menchú awarded Vergara with the Hispanic Woman of the Year
Award, commending her leadership skills. In 2001 she created
¡§Peace and Hope for Children of Colombia,¡¨ a charity foundation
that has helped thousands of children in her country, and which
has donated a new cancer pavilion for children in her native
Barranquilla. In 2002 she was awarded the ¡§Women of Hope Award¡¨
by the City of Hope as one of the outstanding role models for
future generations.
Vergara will be the face of the new VISA card
campaign. She also has worked on commercials for Pepsi, Miller
Lite, McDonald¡¦s and XOXO Jeans.
